Job Description
Our Afterschool programs operate in 64 elementary schools across Hays CISD, Manor ISD, Austin ISD, Round Rock ISD, and area charter schools. As an Afterschool Counselor, you inspire young learners by creating an environment for them to have positive social experiences. This is accomplished through a wide range of afterschool activities, such as physical activities, social-emotional learning, creativity, and critical thinking. Our goal is to meet the social, emotional, and academic needs of our young learners so they can grow into the changemakers of tomorrow.
Afterschool programs are Monday through Friday between the hours 2:00 pm - 6:30 pm.
Key Responsibilities of the Position
What You’ll Do:
Provide care for a group of youth ages 4-13 years, such as initiating schedules, routines, and activities during after-school hours
Working at all times with additional counselors at a 1:17 ratio
Responsible for the safety of the children onsite within the Texas Child Care directives.
Ensure youth are learning positive behaviors and providing guidance.
Leading and supervising play activities, games, sports, and creative projects in the arts, sciences, and math
Follow Curriculum lesson plans put in place which include educational and recreational activities for children in a group setting.
Guiding youth through their school assignments, offering help if needed.
Distribute snacks following sanitation, USDA, and CCR guidelines
Enforce safety and security standards for children and visitors.
Working Conditions:
Ability to read and record information, communicate effectively (verbally and in writing), maintain a focus and solutions-oriented mindset under complex situations, regular walking, reaching, bending, lifting, and standing. Must be able to routinely lift 10 lbs., and occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
Qualifications - Education and Experience:
High School graduate or GED equivalent. Minimum age of 18 years.
Related education and/or experience in childhood development
Prior experience working with young children preferred

Hours and Compensation
Hours for this position are part-time. Afterschool Counselors work Monday through Friday between the hours 2:00 pm - 6:30 pm. This position is in-person. Compensation for this position is $15 per hour.
