Austin Bat Cave - Volunteer Instructor

Organizational Description: Austin Bat Cave (ABC) is a creative community. Our writing programs empower students to find their voices and tell their stories.

Position Title: Volunteer Instructor

Position Summary: Volunteers work with students in groups and one-on-one to develop their creative and expository writing skills. Our students benefit from our volunteers’ interests, talents, passionate mentorship, and individual feedback. Don’t have any teaching experience? Don’t worry, we’ll help you with that!

Responsibilities: Supporting lead instructor with curriculum and classroom engagement; Working 1:1 with students on their creative writing skills and collecting their submissions to be published; Fostering a sense of belonging and community among students in workshop

Qualifications and Skills: The three skills we've seen in the most successful instructors are: flexibility (understanding where students are and meeting them there), being authentic (letting students get to know you and vise versa) and having curiosity (trying something new with students, making mistakes, and learning together).

Compensation and Benefits: This is a volunteer position, with room to gain experience and become a paid teaching artist with ABC.
