Afterschool Program Instructor, Camp Fire
Job Description
The Afterschool Tutor is primarily responsible for assisting and teaching elementary school youth in subject areas where they need additional support.
Key Responsibilities of the Position
Learn, understand and deliver Camp Fire Tutoring curriculum to youth in a non-traditional learning environment.
Plan and teach elementary math and reading concepts to various age groups.
Engage students in learning and assist students in reaching educational milestones.
Create calendar of events.
Communicate effectively with appropriate school administrators and parents/guardians of youth.
Document progress and maintain accurate records.
Plan, organize and prep for classroom activities and lessons.
Others duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION:
Current CPR and First Aid certification
High school diploma. Preferred bachelor’s degree or above in field related to youth development, recreation or education.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge & skills required to create & implement a work plan
Knowledgeable of group work & facilitation, conflict resolution & behavior management
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Experience working with children and youth
Experience teaching
SKILLS:
Effective oral and written communication skills
Ability to prioritize & manage multiple tasks
Team player & committed professional
Must foster a safe positive environment for youth
BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES:
Flexible regarding time & availability
Ability to work independently
Dedicated to the success of Camp Fire’s program model
Accept supervision and guidance
PREFERRED:
Experience guiding youth in learning
Experience teaching youth in general education subjects
Knowledge and interest in math and reading milestones
Bi-lingual in Spanish & English
