Austin ISD Assistant Director District-Wide Afterschool Child Care Program

JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

This position is responsible for overseeing the District Wide After-School Child Care Program at all program locations and the direct supervision of the Licensed Site Supervisors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education or related field is required. Five (5) years of successful experience in a leadership or supervisory role in a licensed childcare center is required. Three (3) years of experience in developing and supervising multiple licensed childcare programs within a school district is preferred. Incumbent must be able to be recognized as a Program Director as described in the Minimum Standards for School-Aged and Before and After-School Programs under the guidance set forth by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the ability to develop and manage multiple teams and programs, set, and achieve strategic goals, and manage a large budget. A thorough knowledge of State Minimum Standards for School Age and Before and After School Programs set forth by Texas Department of Health and Human Services is required. Knowledge of Workforce Child Care Solutions Texas Rising Star standards and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) criteria for high quality programming is preferred. Knowledge of Texas Workforce Commission application procedures for subsidized childcare is preferred. Incumbent must keep abreast of all Federal, State, and local rules and regulations. The incumbent must demonstrate skills in communication and communicating and collaborating effectively with team members in the department, as well as with leaders of other departments. This position must be able to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated coaching, counseling, and conflict-resolution skills. Incumbent must possess skills in working with computer/online tools, including but not limited to the Microsoft Suite and Google Suite; skill in effective customer service; skill in accommodating child care programming for various student needs; skill in organizing and planning; knowledge in budgeting process and procedures in order to maintain compliance with Austin ISD Policies and procedures; and knowledge in staff development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Directly supervise and evaluate Licensed Site Supervisors

  • Conduct meetings and trainings regularly with Licensed Site Supervisors

  • Assist the Director of District Wide After-School Child Care Program to recruit, interview, hire and retain Licensed Site Supervisors and other District support staff.

  • Meet regularly with the Director of District Wide After-School Child Care Program to discuss areas of success and improvement.

  • Oversee Camp Heatwave staff, registration processes and procedures!

  • Assist with developing and implementing program policies and procedures.

  • Oversee the Texas Workforce Commission’s Tuition Assistance application process for families, ensuring effective teamwork between Project Specialists, Licensing Specialists, Licensed Site Supervisors and Account Techs to maximize support for families.

  • Identify, analyze, and apply research findings to promote program improvement.

  • Ensure compliance at all program sites with DFPS Minimum Standards and program policies and procedures.

  • Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification, UDCA Training and Texas Early Childhood Professional Develop Training Certification

  • Know and comply with the Educator Code of Conduct and all policies, procedures, laws, and State/Federal regulations, DFPS Minimum Standards, and program policies and procedures.

  • Maintain inventory list and track supplies and materials.

  • Assist in maintenance of accurate records for all programs, accounts, personnel, children, and program activities.

  • Provide an exceptional customer experience for all AISD stakeholders with intentional and professional practices that promote a culture of respect and focus on achieving equitable outcomes.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:

Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is generally conducted in a campus environment depending on available space (cafeteria, gym, classroom) or activities assigned (e.g., field trips and recess may require activities outdoors). This position may involve exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position.

PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:

Incumbent works under the supervision of the appropriate supervisor of the department. Incumbents will have contact with students, teachers, administrators, parents, guardians, and families.
